A fascinating Roman Rebulic era coin issued by Lucius Roscius Fabatus. Fabatus supported Julius Caesar in the Civil Wars at the end of the Republic, dying in battle the year after Caesar’s assassination.
The coin shows the head of Juno Sospita right, wearing goat skin headdress; uncertain symbol to left. On the reverse is a female figure standing right, feeding coiled serpent - a reference to the worship of the goddess at Lanuvium.
